Starting Point:
Height: 6′ 4″
Weight: 250 lbs
About me:35 year old I.T. Systems Engineer. Single parent of a 9 year old girl. If I want to be around to enjoy time with my grandchildren I have no other option than to change the way I live. My job doesn’t lend anything to fitness as I sit on my ass 8 hours a day not to mention the countless hours I sit in front of my computer at home. I am no stranger to fitness as I have completed several marathons in my younger days and a few triathlons. I spent six years on active duty in the Navy and was in tip top shape at the time. Of course years later my body has gone through some changes and I’m now head long into my middle years.
Challenges I expect:There are a lot of challenges I expect to face during this transformation. It is going to be a struggle in the beginning but I full expect to be able to accomplish everything I set out do accomplish. Here are some of the things I expect to encounter.
Time - I commute an hour each way to work. So in addition to the normal full workday I have to add a couple extra hours to the mix. I also have a school age daughter that I have half the time so I need and want to spend as much time as possible with her. Finding the time to prepare healthy meals, do my workouts and log my results will be somewhat of a challenge.
Fitness level - As I start working out I expect that my body is going to go through hell and back. Over the last 2 years I have managed to put on an extra 60 pounds and it feels like a ton. I’ve never been so out of shape in my life so the initial push into a workout regimen is going to suck, and thats an understatement.
Dependency - At this point I probably drink between 6 and 12 beers a night. I fully expect that my body will go through a detox period. Headaches, heartburn and cravings will only be the best parts as I kick this life sucking habit.
Neck and back - In the last year I have had some medical problems with my neck which an MRI revealed a herniated disc and arthritis. When an episode flares up with this life is absolutely hell. The area is C6 / C7 so its right up near the base of my neck and it feels like somone is stabbing me with an ice pick between my shoulder blades. I will have to take care not to aggravate this area during workouts or it will be game over.
