Back on the wagon… and a word about life changes

Monday, January 28th, 2008 | motivation with No Comments »

My so called 2 week challenge didn’t quite make it one week. I gave in to the temptation of a new Mexican restaurant across the street and also skipped the gym over this past weekend. I’m not going to let that get to me though. Even though I went out for dinner I didn’t over do it. Sure I could of had a pitcher of margaritas and some fried ice cream like usual but then I would be missing the point. 3guys1goal Isn’t just about gimike diets. Its about life changes, and I would never agree to a life change that said I couldn’t eat at a Mexican restaurant every now and then. So while I was being bad this weekend I made some changes to my normal eating out routine. For once in my life I didn’t finish my meal, I was able to bring home leftovers for the next day. Normally I’m the kind of guy that would stuff himself silly and then lick his plate clean, that of course adds up fast.

So I’m back on my plan, I’ve made a small step towards changing my life to eat healthy amounts of food when I eat out, and on top of that I still managed to drop 2 pounds over the weekend.

Time to get serious.

So far this month I’ve done a decent job not eating out for lunch. I’ve also tried cutback my intake at home and on weekends and as of last week I’ve started getting into my workout routine… But thats not enough. I need to get serious workout everyday and stick to a strict diet. So here it is. Starting today I’m putting myself on a two week challenge.

So for without further a due my first challenge is this. For the next 2 weeks starting today I will work out daily for a minimum of 30 minutes. I will also eat nothing but 2 eggs for breakfast, a chicken breast plus a light side for lunch, and a salad for dinner.

Dance games are workouts too… Right?

Today I slipped a little (I know, how do you slip on your 3rd day?). Any way my wife had received a coupon to one of our favorite restaurants so I said sure why not. I had some how convinced myself that a salad would be healthy knowing that it probably had a few thousand calories in it especially with that bread stick and extra dressing. When we finally got home I was so stuffed that the thought of going to the gym made me sick (See my post from yesterday for this prediction).

Now to the point of this little story. After lying around the house for a little while I began to feel guily about blowing off the gym. Thats when I remembered that seldom used dance game for my favorite video game system that I had bought a few years back for the sole purpose of using for exercise.  After what I can only compare to an archaeological dig in my basement I brushed the dust off my dance pad and hoped around like a fool for 45 minutes (wow am I glad I have don’t windows in my basement). The game says I burned 400+ calories which probably doesn’t put a dent in my dinner intake but thats sure beats the alternative night I had planned of lying around watching tv.

I guess my real point is that being active in any form can help you reach your goals. And when you get burnt out be creative when it comes to your workouts.

Another successful workout…

I think I’m finally getting into the swing of things. I’m on day 3 of my workout routine and today I hit the pool again. Being a former high school swimmer it’s the one workout I know how to do properly. With that said its been at least 9 months since I’ve been in a pool semi regularly and I’ve probably gained 15 pound or so since then. To be honest I felt like I was going to drown today. I wasn’t going to let that discourage me though. I swam 1400 yards in about 1/2 hour. Normally I would do more but since I’m finally just getting started I figured I would take it easy for the first week or so.

Now that I’m home I feel great, actually I feel fantastic. As a matter of fact I always feel so amazing when I’m done that I can’t wait to work out the next day. And thats whats strange, by the time tomorrow comes around my workout euphoria will be gone and I will be dreading my daily workout… Thats when the other 2 guys in 3guys1goal will come in and save the day by re-invigorating my lost workout bliss.

Team motivation

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 | Fitness, motivation with No Comments »

Unlike the others I’ve found myself off to a slow start. Sure I’ve done a good job with not going out for fast food during lunch but the bulk of my diet/workout plan hasn’t yet come to fruition.

Today started out like any other lazy Monday. I hit the snooze button and dreamed my way right past my workout routine (The same workout routine that I have yet to attempt). Just as I came to terms with not working out today JB and RC started talking about there workouts today. Thats when it hit me. I couldn’t wait to get home and head to the gym. So thats what I did, and let me tell you. It’s been a loooong while since I’ve been there and it shows. My workout just about killed me but I feel great for going and can’t wait to go tomorrow. And if my motivation wears off I’ve got the guys to whip me back into shape.
